Ken Frank is entirely self-taught and brings a personalized touch to his contemporary French cuisine at La Toque. Frank’s love of French cooking began in 1972 when his family spent a year living in the French village of Yvoire, on Lac Leman. Frank first achieved national acclaim in 1976 at age 21, at the Los Angeles restaurant La Guillotine. He opened the original La Toque on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles in 1979. He moved the restaurant to Rutherford, Napa Valley, in 1998. In 2008 La Toque moved again to its new home at The Westin Verasa Napa, at the center of a vibrant culinary scene in downtown Napa’s Oxbow District. La Toque has held a Michelin Star since 2007 and is one of only 91 restaurants in the world to receive Wine Spectator’s Grand Award. In 2016 Chef Frank was inducted into the Cavaliere dell’Ordine del Tartufo e dei Vini di Alba.
The menu evolves constantly to show off each season’s finest ingredients. Chef Frank’s culinary team takes full advantage of the regions network of farmers and artisan purveyors to source some of the finest foods in the world. Tasting together with the Sommeliers, they aim to optimize the flavors in these exceptional products and create dishes that harmonize with great wine. The Core menu is presented in four sections from which guests can create their own multi-course experience. La Toque also features two extensive tasting menus; the Chef’s Tasting Menu with nine courses, and a six course Vegetable Tasting Menu. For the last 35 years, every January, La Toque has offered it’s acclaimed All Black Truffle Menu, highlighting one of Chef Frank’s favorite ingredients.
La Toque’s award winning-cellar has grown to over 2,300 selections, now presented as an iPad application. The Sommelier team literally brings the world to your table, choosing the finest wines from every major wine-growing region to pair with the Chef’s dishes. Their many years of food and wine pairing experience add a layer of service to the dining experience at La Toque that is unmatched, anywhere.
